As last year was Pokémon’s 20th anniversary, Nintendo and parent company the Pokémon Company went all-out. Not only did we see the massively successful Pokémon GO in July, but massive waves of merchandising, a new anime season and of course the two main attractions: Pokémon Sun & Moon for the 3DS.

It sounds like it’s paid off, too. License Global! recently received its annual reports from major companies, and The Pokémon Company claims to have generated $3.3 billion in total retail sales of licensed products worldwide. This is a pretty sizable leap from the prior year, where they took $2.1 billion.

We’re sure to hear even more financial news from the world of Nintendo soon, as the company’s Fiscal Year report for 2016 should come in toward the end of the month. We’ll be sure to bring you coverage.
