Nintendo of America has announced that Bye-Bye BoxBoy! (Known as Goodbye! BoxBoy! in Japan) is making its way to North America on March 23rd as a 3DS eShop exclusive.

Bye-Bye BoxBoy! is the third and final entry in the BoxBoy trilogy which chronicles the adventures of a box named Qbby as he attempts to save his world from peril. Players can sprout boxes from Qbby’s body which are used to solve a variety of mind boggling puzzles.

Many of you might remember that Japan also was treated to a special edition bundle which included an amiibo of Qbby.  Sadly, no mention of an amiibo release has been made by Nintendo of America at this time. In fact, part of the UK announcement makes it sound like the amiibo’s functionality, which unlocked a classic Game Boy filter, can be unlocked without the figure in the North American and European releases of the game.

As a special bonus, players with game data from both of the previous titles will unlock both a Qucy costume and the option to play the game in a distinctive visual style reminiscent of the original Game Boy.”

The announcement trailer does show Kirby amiibo functionality but lacks any mention of the Qbby amiibo. Sadly, its chances of coming over are looking pretty slim. However, be sure to stay tuned to Nintendo Wire for more details if they become available.
