We’re just one week away from the Nintendo Switch launching and the news of indie developers flocking to the fledgling portable console hybrid just keeps coming! Joining today’s announcement of the tight, precise and tough-as-nails platformer Celeste making the Switch is Causal Bit Games’ Battle Princess Madelyn – a beautifully crafted homage to classic Ghouls ‘n Ghosts and Wonder Boy series.
Battle Princess Madelyn follows the journey of the titular young knight in training and her ghostly pet pup, Fritzy. Together, the two inseparable companions set out on a retro side-scrolling adventure through spooky graveyards, murky swamps, creepy castles and more to save their kingdom and family from the clutches of an evil wizard. Best of all, those worried about the brutally challenging (and rewarding) gameplay reminiscent of ‘80s arcade games can rest easy as a self-adjusting difficulty is included to make the game far more accessible.
Did I mention that the orchestrated and retro FM/PCM arcade style soundtrack is composed by none other than John McCarthy of Nintendo Quest fame and the legendary Gryzor87, respectively?
Be sure to check out the full trailer below in anticipation of the game’s release sometime in late 2017.
