The official Splatoon Twitter account has revealed a number of details about how player communication will work in the upcoming Splatoon 2.
Splatoon 2 will support both online lobbies and voice chat for multiplayer games right out the gate, albeit via a smartphone application.
Players can use the smartphone application to invite friends to join their game through social media, then use voice chat to communicate with them.
In-game, voice chat functions similarly: through a smartphone app.
Once all participating players of a private game have joined, they’ll be able to communicate with each other until teams have been determined.
After teams have been decided, players can only speak with their teammates.
Players will not be able to speak with strangers in the same way as they would players in private games.
Splatoon 2 is set for release on the Nintendo Switch in Summer 2017.
