Just months after its announcement and public uncertainty regarding its fate, Pokémon GO for the Apple Watch has launched.

According to the press release put out by Niantic, owners of the Apple Watch will be able to:

Log each play session as a workout, with gameplay counting toward personal Activity rings

Receive notifications about nearby Pokémon

Count distance toward hatching Pokémon Eggs and receiving Candy with your Buddy Pokémon

Receive notifications about PokéStops nearby and collect items from them

Receive notifications when Eggs hatch and medals are awarded

Support for the app on the Apple Watch arrives via the 1.21.2 update for iOS.

Uncertainty recently surrounded Pokémon GO support on the Apple Watch after reports came out that plans for it were canceled by Niantic.

However, the company later announced those reports to be false.

Owners of the app and Apple Watch can begin playing the game on their smartwatch starting today by updating the Pokémon GO app to version 1.21.2 through the App Store.
