Nintendo has released a PDF of its most recent Semi-Annual Financial Results and, as always, it’s chock full of information. Most notably is Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima’s discussion of the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo has officially announced that it plans to ship 2 million units worldwide at launch compared to just over 3 million units the Wii U shipped during its first month.
We plan to launch Nintendo Switch worldwide in March 2017. We are planning to ship two million hardware units globally from launch in March 2017 through the end of that month.
It’s important to remember that the Switch isn’t releasing during the holiday season like the Wii U before it, so 2 million units may not be considered a “small” number. However, judging by all the buzz the Switch has been receiving, it’s not crazy to think that the console might be difficult to come by during its launch window.
