The Nintendo 3DS has no shortage of laid-back simulation games; from Story of Seasons to Fantasy Life to Animal Crossing: New Leaf there are plenty of options. That doesn’t mean there can’t be new contenders for your down-time, however, which brings us to a new “slow living miniscape RPG” from Flyhigh Works – Picontier.

Announced by the Japanese publisher at the Tokyo Game Show, Picontier is being developed by Skipmore for release on Steam, PS4 and, of course, Nintendo 3DS. You may recognize the Skipmore name as the studio created the simplified RPGs Fairune and Drancia for 3DS and mobile devices respectively.

Picontier will feature farming, crafting, mining and fishing, much like most other games inspired by Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons. It will also have dungeon exploring and monsters to fight. What’s most appealing to me, though, is the colorful cast of characters that will inhabit the island.

Here’s hoping the game holds up when it launches. Unfortunately there’s no date set in stone yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as possible.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
