In a blog post today, Niantic confirmed that Buddy Pokémon are coming to Pokémon GO. While the data for Buddy Pokémon was recently found by data miners, this is the first time that Niantic has officially mentioned the feature.
Buddy Pokémon appear alongside your trainer on your profile screen and offer unique rewards, such as earning Candy by walking together. Niantic also notes that you can change your Buddy Pokémon at any time.
