Among the many previously unseen features shown off in today’s debut trailer of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s is the existence of an immersive, open world unlike anything seen in a Zelda title before.
In the trailer, a variety of landscapes are shown, including deserts, vistas dotted with palm trees, a castle, open fields full of wildlife and more.
New activities for Link are highlighted throughout the video as well, showing him diving, climbing rocks, trees and buildings, gliding, mounting wild horses, chopping down trees to create paths over canyons, hunting animals, burning grass, cooking food, rolling boulders on enemies and using some sort of tool to manipulate objects – including creating what appears to be a cube out of water.
While hinted at in interviews since the announcement of the game, the reality of Zelda Wii U’s “open world” hadn’t been seen until today.
