Japanese newspaper Asahi Shinbun recently had the chance to interview Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima, and it’s led to the reveal of some pretty exciting news!

Thanks to Kyle McLain’s translation of the newspaper on Twitter, we can confirm that Kimishima has stated that Nintendo will, in fact, be getting into the movie business. This doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, as there have been a few cases of rumors and vague information cropping up around the internet regarding Nintendo and the film industry.

Still, the fact that it’s officially been confirmed is exciting. And there’s no need to fear, either; though the prospect of film adaptations of games is known to scare the majority of the gaming community, Kimishima has hinted that Nintendo is looking towards a productions system where “we can do as much as we can ourselves.” After the disaster that was the Super Mario Bros. movie, that doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

Nintendo movies definitely have the potential to be amazing with the right people behind them, especially if Nintendo really does stay very hands-on with each project. The interview also stated that Nintendo is hoping to have its first movie ready in the next two to three years, so it doesn’t look like we’ll have to wait too long to see how these plans go.

We’ll make sure to keep you in the loop about any more Nintendo movie news!
