Famitsu, Japan’s premier video game magazine, recently held an award ceremony honoring 2015’s finest. Taking the top spot was none other than Nintendo’s Wii U gem Splatoon! One of my most played games of last year, Splatoon managed to capture players with its addictive gameplay, simple yet rewarding mechanics, and overwhelming sense of style. As one of Nintendo’s newest IPs it’s fantastic to see it receive so much recognition in such a short frame of time.

Other Nintendo winners include Fire Emblem Fates and Super Mario Maker, both taking Excellence prizes. This places them as luminaries of several other stand out releases of the year, with Super Mario Maker and Splatoon both also receiving Innovation awards for their great creative strides.

Congratulations to Nintendo, as well as the other winners!

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
