After their series of “real” Mario commercials it seemed the Mercedez-Benz GLA was to be the king of Nintendo references when it comes to motor vehicles. While they were enjoyable in their own way and led to a series of cross-promotional DLC options in both Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario Maker, a new challenger has stepped up in a much more subtle fashion.
The Tesla Model S, an electric luxury car that boasts incredible safety ratings, sales, and fuel economy; was found to have a great Nintendo Easter egg. If one presses the autopilot button four times in quick succession the accompanying display will change to Rainbow Road of Mario Kart fame!
While nothing “official” has been said on the matter the resemblance is uncanny, though in lieu of one of the track’s iconic themes a cowbell-based sound clip plays, showing that we can always have just a little more.
