JRPG fans might be in for a huge treat: the developers of the popular Bravely series, Silicon Studio, have announced a collaboration with Mistwalker, the development team founded by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy. Check out the first piece of concept art from the as-of-yet untitled game:

There’s no guarantee the game will come to a Nintendo system, but given Silicon Studio’s proven track record with the 3DS it shouldn’t be ruled out.

Mistwalker, on the other hand, hasn’t had a major console title since 2011’s The Last Story; since then they’ve focused instead on mobile titles such as Terra Battle. Their RPG pedigree shouldn’t be understated though; the Xbox 360’s Lost Odyssey is seen by many as one of the most impressive and under-appreciated JRPGs of the last generation, and Blue Dragon, while not to everyone’s taste, was a return to traditional mechanics.

Considering the Bravely series already feels like a love letter to the systems Sakaguchi and his team pioneered back in the day it’s an exciting prospect for the developers to be working together. We’ll have to wait and see where this project leads, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated if it ends up heading to Nintendo platforms!
