According to a tweet made by Nintendo of Europe earlier today, Mario Kart 64 will be coming to the Wii U’s virtual console later this week. The game, as of right now, will be exclusive to those in Europe, and will hit the VC on Thursday, January 21st.
There is no word or hint as to whether or not North America will be seeing this game make a return, which was already available through the Wii’s original Virtual Console. While North America is no stranger to seeing Virtual Console releases in other regions that don’t make it to them, it’s usually a common occurrence in Japan, not Europe. And as the game will be released in less than a week, it’s unlikely we’ll see a release in North America, at least on the same day as in Europe.
Keep your eyes peeled for any further news on the subject, and we’ll be sure to update if any news about North America comes to light. While Mario Kart 64 certainly doesn’t play as well as the Wii U’s Mario Kart 8, the game holds a lot of memories and nostalgia for many.
