Have you ever taken a look at your 3DS and thought it could use a makeover? Or maybe you’ve always wanted to get your hands on one of those costly limited edition designs, but didn’t want to shell out the money for it. Whatever the case may be, Nintendo has done its best to remedy the desires of its 3DS owners and their need to display their love for every game they own. With the standard size New Nintendo 3DS, players are able to swap the cover plates on their system, meaning that if they had enough, they could go for a new look every day of the week.
Though we’ve gone over a few of these cover plates in our holiday gift guide, that barely ever scratched the surface of what’s available. And that’s why we’re introducing a new page on Nintendo Inquirer dedicated entirely to the New Nintendo 3DS cover plates!
These plates are a very large selling point when it comes to the standard size new 3DS over the New 3DS XL, and while currently the standard size is only available in the Happy Home Designer bundle for North America, that hasn’t deterred many fans. However, once given the option to decide what plates they might want for their new systems, the choices can become a little overwhelming. I know from a personal standpoint that I’d always be wondering if I was missing something that might be better, or if I should wait for one that might be coming out. And while you could search for hours on Amazon, we found that incredibly inconvenient; so we’ve compiled a beautiful visual list unlike anything else you might find.
Numbered numerically and with their titles, our new page covers every cover plate that’s been announced or released to date, including certain exclusives only available overseas, like in Europe. Currently, there are a total of 71 (or 76 if you include the five European exclusives) with lots more guaranteed to be on the way. Even better, any of the cover plates you see on this page that are readily available to buy online will be linked accordingly, which means if you see one you love in particular, you might not even have to go searching for it!
And fear not, as we plan to keep this list as updated as possible until Nintendo halts the creation of cover plates entirely (though we hope that never happens!). So if you check back regularly, you’ll always be up-to-date and informed about what’s coming and what’s out. That way, you’ll be prepared for any cover plates that might be newly released!
Some of these plates are really beautifully designed, and you can get a close up look of each image of them on the database as well. I highly suggest taking a bit of time and go through it, even if you don’t have a compatible 3DS, because doing so might just sway you into buying one. Even if it doesn’t, the designs really are something to be admired, at the very least. Seeing all of the released cover plates in one place is really quite wonderful, and I didn’t even know some of these existed!
