For all those in Europe, it looks like you guys are getting some special love from Nintendo come December 24th.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, the 1996 SNES classic, fan favorite, and the original Mario role-playing game, is getting a re-release on Thursday on the Wii U. This game was the obvious precursor to both the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi series, so its place in history goes unchallenged. As well as introducing a cast of unique characters and providing a killer plot, the game is recognized as one of the best in the SNES’ lifespan to this day.

Unfortunately, no announcement for its re-release in North America has been made yet. I wouldn’t fret, though– news like this tends to come to North America sooner or later as long as we’re patient. Give it a few months and I’m sure we’ll hear about North America getting it as well!

The re-release’s Europe-only status right now could have something to do with the fact that the game never released in Europe during its original run, which meant fans over there never got to play the gem. Additionally, when it relaunched on Virtual Console back in 2008 for the Wii, European players had to pay an additional fee because it was an “import.” Maybe Nintendo’s just trying to be good to their European fans with this game for once.

Super Mario RPG will re-release for download on Thursday, December 24th, for €7.99 (£5.85).
