The highly addictive and colorful shooter, Splatoon, took the award for Best Multiplayer game tonight at The Game Awards 2015.

The brand new IP from Nintendo was its first leap into the multiplayer shooting genre and it has sold extremely well for it. The game isn’t your typical shooter by any means and it’s flipped the genre on its head. Instead of trying to kill as many enemies as possible, players instead must cover the map with as much ink as possible in order to win.

Splatoon is still receiving much love from Nintendo with a constant stream of free DLC, and because of this, it manages to maintain a fresh sense of gameplay six months after its initial release. (Speaking of DLC, fans can download the game’s newest map, Mahi Mahi Resort, for free today!)

Let’s take a moment to congratulate Nintendo’s Splatoon. We’ve believed in it from the beginning and there’s no doubt about it that it deserves this amazing honor!
