Ever since it was announced back at E3 this year we’ve been waiting for more information regarding the upcoming Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam. Thankfully, the latest Direct has not only given us a confirmed release date for North America but also a brand-new trailer, which you can watch below.

The cross-over between the popular Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi series will feature plenty of familiar characters interacting with their wafer-thin doppelgangers. In the new trailer you can even spot some brand new characters who haven’t been in a Mario RPG before, such as New Super Mario Bros. U’s Nabbit and the Sumo Bros. from Super Mario World.

The trailer also reveals a brand new gameplay mechanic: “Battle Cards”. These cards can be collected throughout the world and are used in combat, where they can boost stats, dish out damage, and increase the amount of coins enemies drop. Fans of amiibo will be happy to know their Mario universe figures can be used to unlock special character cards, which serve the same function as the Battle Cards but feature unique art pulled from the wider world of Mario games.
