Halloween is upon us, and no doubt many of you are preparing your costumes and getting ready to start scaring.

However, if you’ve got some time to spare this All Hallow’s Eve you might want to jump into Super Mario Maker; the Mario brothers aren’t strangers to creepy haunted houses after all. In our last showcase we asked you for some sufficiently spooky levels to feature this week, and we were quite pleased with the results! In fact there were so many cool levels it was hard to narrow it down to just three.

So grab your candy and controller and get ready for a selection of fantastic frights…

HH01

Ashley’s House of Tricks by Tom Brown
1F1E-0000-0082-4FB5

Join WarioWare’s Ashley as she explores a house full of shenanigans, where everything is not quite as it seems.

HH3

Grinding Factory by Noah Urbanovsky
230F-0000-00A2-392D

The saw blade is definitely the tool you need if you want to instill some fear in players. This level makes use of them in many ways, and forces Mario to make some dark decisions on his journey through the factory. Just remember to keep calm and stay patient!

HH2

Bowser’s Prison by Itachi9695
9FED-0000-00AC-790B

What does Bowser do with all of the minions who fail to take down Mario? This level seems to imply he throws them into a creepy prison, where the bars are creatively put together through some impressive use of the background wall tool. This is a difficult level, and even features some boss fights, but it’s still fair once you figure out all of its secrets.

HH4

Beware the Boo Blocks! by Mr. MegaManFan
8C0F-0000-0044-4691

This is a puzzle level with plenty of deceptive routes and hidden goodies. Don’t worry about restarting a few times, it will take a few tries to figure out just where you’re supposed to go.

We hope you aren’t too frightened from those adventures!

Unfortunately we have one more scare for you; our next showcase will land on a dreaded Friday the 13th. To fit in with that unfortunate date our next theme is going to be…

Bad Luck!

Given how often Princess Peach gets kidnapped, bad luck is nothing new to Mario and friends. We want you to be devious (but not too unfair!) and craft us some tricky levels of your own. Not only that but the showcase is going to be posted after the upcoming Super Mario Maker update, so feel free to make use of the new Checkpoint system.

So see you on November 13th, and leave your level codes in the comments below!

Until next time, let’s make Mario!

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
