Last month, during the Tokyo Game Show, fans of Ace Attorney were treated to the surprise reveal of Apollo Justice in the upcoming Ace Attorney 6. We didn’t know exactly what his role would be in the game back then, but now, thanks to the latest issue of Famitsu, we know both he and Phoenix Wright will stand side-by-side as dual protagonists.

Of course, fans who have played the previous game in the main franchise, Dual Destinies, will know this is nothing new as that game featured the same dual protagonists. It could even be argued that Apollo Justice was the most significant character in that game, with much of the story being dedicated to his past and his personal tragedies.

Famitsu also reveals the return of the incredibly smug prosecutor Gaspen Payne, from Dual Destinies, and confirms Ace Attorney 6 will be set in both Japan and the fictional “Kurain Kingdom”. What this means for the game’s eventual localisation and the usual tendency to blur any specific references to Japanese culture for Western audiences (sometimes to hilarious effect), who can say.

Ace Attorney 6 will be released in Japan for the 3DS sometime in 2016, and it’s localisation for the west has been confirmed.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
