Hyrule Warriors Legends, the 3DS follow-up to last year’s Hyrule Warriors, is expected to launch early next year. If you’re excited about the prospect of mowing down legions of Zelda baddies in glorious stereoscopic 3D, you’re not alone. You will, however, need the proper hardware to make it happen.

During Tokyo Game Show this week, producer Yosuke Hayashi dropped a few new bits of information about the title. Most noteworthy is that the game will only run in 3D on the New Nintendo 3DS, made possible by its improved hardware and enhanced performance. This shouldn’t come as a massive surprise, as this is a fully featured port of a Wii U game. The game will still be fully playable on the 3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS, but with the 3D effect automatically disabled.

Hayashi also confirmed that we can expect to see more characters join the game’s roster, beyond the already announced Tetra, Toon Link and Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule (also known as The King of Red Lions). Amiibo support was formally confirmed for the title, as well, but no new details on how they will be integrated were given.

With the standard New 3DS finally making its way stateside, and the Hyrule Gold Edition 3DS XL hitting shelves soon, there are plenty of excuses to own a New 3DS anyways!
