Nintendo has confirmed many amiibo hunters’ fear this morning. The Modern 8-Bit Mario amiibo will, indeed, be exclusive to the Super Mario Maker Deluxe Wii U set at launch.

The Super Mario Maker Wii U bundle comes loaded with a copy of Super Mario Maker, an art book and a Modern 8-Bit Mario amiibo. This bundle is exclusive to Walmart stores and is available to pre-order now.

Judging by the language on the site — “Exclusively available in the Super Mario Maker Deluxe Set at launch” — we still expect to see an individual release of this amiibo in the near future.
