Developer Telltale Games has revealed to The Verge that their upcoming narrative driven Minecraft spin-off is heading to the Wii U later this year. It will mark not only the first official appearance of Minecraft on a Nintendo console, but also Telltale’s belated return to Nintendo development after almost five years (their last Nintendo game was the Wii’s Back to the Future, released in late 2010).

Telltale’s development output has been rapidly growing ever since The Walking Dead was released to critical and commercial acclaim back in 2012. All signs indicate Minecraft: Story Mode will adopt the same successful formula as its popular predecessors, where players have to make snap decisions that could have severe consequences later on in the story. However, as the trailer below shows, the Minecraft spin-off is going for a more light hearted and tongue-in-cheek approach compared to recent Telltale titles.

Are you excited for Minecraft: Story Mode, or are you more excited by the fact both Mojang and Telltale are finally showing support for Nintendo’s platforms? Let us know in the comments below.
