Going into the release of Mario Kart World, a change that caught the attention of many was the absence of some modes from previous games. With only 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc available to start, it seemed as if Mirror and 200cc were just absent. That proved to not be entirely true however, as fans noticed that mirrored tracks could appear online. So that raised the next question, how do you unlock Mirror Mode?

The first steps to unlock Mirror Mode

The answer is surprisingly complex, as Mirror Mode is locked behind quite a lot of criteria. To start, you have to complete every single Grand Prix cup as well as every Knockout Tour rally. The best way to do so quickly is to do it on 150cc, as that will clear 50cc and 100cc automatically in the process.

That isn’t all though, as Mirror Mode also seems to require some work in Free Roam as well. A total of 100 collectibles will need to be gathered, making sure to get at least ten of each of the Missions, Peach Medallions, and ? Block Panels.

Almost at the finish line

Once the above criteria are met, Mirror Mode should unlock after finishing the Special Cup one more time. As the name suggests, Mirror Mode will flip every track, so any left turns become right turns and so on. More than that though, it flips the entire map of the game, and this can be done in Free Roam by entering the stained-glass window on Peach’s Castle.

As can be seen, unlocking Mirror mode in the first place is surprisingly difficult. It’s almost treated as a post-game reward, and it’s no wonder it took some time for players to figure it out. That being said, Mario Kart World is almost known at this point for difficult unlocks, such as the luck-reliant NPC characters and the copious amount of costumes, so it’s hard to be too surprised.
