The long-awaited remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is finally here, and with it comes lots to do! As with most RPGs, there is a wide array of optional content for those truly dedicated to completing the game. The first task that comes to mind are the 100 Star Pieces scattered across the game’s world. This guide will go over the first six Star Pieces available in the Prologue.

What are Star Pieces used for?

Before getting into the locations, it is handy to address the reason for collecting these in the first place. Once you’ve gotten the Power Smash Badge, take the pipe south of Professor Frankly’s house into the sewers and head left into the doorway to find an NPC that will trade Star Pieces for a variety of helpful Badges. There are exactly enough Star Pieces to claim every single Badge here, so as you go about collecting them, be sure to check back every so often to redeem your rewards!

Prologue Star Piece locations

For the very first Star Piece in the game, head to the right in central Rogueport and check behind a stack of boxes.

Head over to eastern Rogueport and you will notice a brick wall to the left of the area. Walk in the center of it and then to the side to get past it and then go all the way towards the back and check on top of the crates.

Go back to the central square of town and north to enter the back alley, from here head all the way to the left and enter the house to find the Star Piece behind some debris on the left wall. As a nice bonus, you can also recover the money that was stolen from you in east Rogueport by talking with this NPC.

Back to the central area again, this time go into the inn which is the building the Save Block is in front of. Go up the stairs and out the door to the left to find a walkway to the badge shop. Instead of going into the badge shop, go onto the rooftop to the west and head all the way left to find the Star Piece.

The last two Star Pieces for the Prologue are in the sewers. From the first screen after taking the pipe south of Professor Frankly’s house, head left to the room with the NPC who trades Star Pieces and check behind the pillar towards the back.

Finally, carry on progressing through the sewers as normal until you come across a giant yellow box with an angry face in the third area. Check behind it for the last Star Piece for this section!

The Prologue has by far the fewest Star Pieces of any section of the game, which isn’t too surprising. If you’re looking to keep collecting, be sure to check out our Chapter 1 Star Pieces guide next!
