In what has basically become an annual tradition (save for one year), Nintendo’s September Direct presentation will be taking place on September 12th, 2025, at 9 a.m. ET. Set to run for roughly 60 minutes with details on upcoming games, there’s bound to be a lot of information covered in this stream. As with everyone else on the online, we have some guesses as to what might be contained within the event, which is sure to include things no one could have reasonably expected.

For the sake of clarification up front, we will not be including Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: Z-A in this post. It’s basically guaranteed more information for those two games will be highlighted as the latter releases in a month while the former is still on track for a 2025 release. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment will probably also make an appearance, and since we know it has a tentative date of late 2025 – early 2026, we won’t be including that as it seems like a sure bet.

No, this list is predictions of other titles we expect to show up based on speculation from across the internet and some reasonable assumptions. As with past speculative lists, take everything with a grain of salt. We do not have insider information, nor are we privy to anything being announced.

Without further ado, here are our best guesses for what will be in tomorrow’s Direct.

All RE Engine Resident Evil Games

One of the more prominent rumors going around as of late is that Resident Evil Requiem will be heading to Switch 2 next year. We’ve reported on that specific rumor, but it was elaborated on further by prominent leaker Dusk Golem the other day. According to them, all six of the RE Engine Resident Evil games are getting native Switch 2 ports, which includes the remakes of 2, 3, and 4, as well as 7, Village, and the upcoming Requiem.

Rumor – Resident Evil Requiem will release on Switch 2

This does seem likely, especially since Capcom already has cloud versions of the previous RE Engine games available on Switch. We don’t know how well those specific “ports” have done, but getting native versions on Nintendo’s newest console would make a lot of sense. It’s also entirely possible considering all of those previous titles were released on PS4 and Xbox One, which the Switch 2 can readily trade blows with from a technical standpoint.

Monster Hunter Wilds Port

Call me a sucker for speculation, but I still believe Capcom is planning a port of Monster Hunter Wilds for the Switch 2. While Nintendo’s console might not actually be performant enough to handle the game, Capcom was recently lamenting the sales growth of its latest Monster Hunter title. According to the company’s president, Haruhiro Tsujimoto, the price of the PlayStation 5 is “rather steep” and has been an impediment for the continued growth of Wilds. The game got off to a rather incredible start by selling 10 million copies in a month, but it has only managed to do another half million in the six months since its release.

The cost of hardware across the board is going up, with even Nintendo having to deal with rising tariffs and production costs. The Switch 2 isn’t exactly cheap with its $450 asking price, but that is cheaper than the PS5’s now $550 and you get the extra portability factor mixed in. Capcom likely wants to expand the audience for Monster Hunter as much as possible and with the Switch 2 being a pretty massive hit already, it would make sense to try and attempt a port. Maybe it isn’t possible, but only time will tell.

Switch 2 Edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

This is one of those “out of left field” predictions, but I honestly think CD Projekt Redd will announce intentions to port The Witcher 3 to the Switch 2. The original version is notable for being an “impossible port” on the Switch 1 and containing the entire game on a single cartridge. While it ran fine enough for what it was, the game did actually receive next-gen updates for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC to improve upon the older iterations. The company has also revealed that sales for Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2 had a split of roughly 75% physical, meaning people are eager to have physical editions of games.

CDPR has become something of a household name in the games industry for even people outside of the whole media bubble. The Witcher 3 is popular and with The Witcher 4 in active development, I could see a new port being a holdover until CDPR is ready to talk about the future of the series. It would also improve upon the already impressive portable edition of the game by giving it the performance it really deserves, not to mention upping the visual quality. This is probably not likely, but it feels good.

40th Anniversary Super Mario Compilation

You can never quite tell what Nintendo has planned for any given situation, but there is something special happening just one day after tomorrow’s Direct. The Super Mario series will be turning 40 on Saturday, September 13th, 2025, and it seems really likely that Nintendo has something big planned for the occasion. Five years ago, Nintendo announced “Super Mario 3D All-Stars” during a Direct stream to commemorate the 35th Anniversary of the series, and even released a time-limited multiplayer game for Switch Online subscribers called “Super Mario Bros. 35.” While I wouldn’t want a repeat of that Disney vault nonsense, I could see some new compilation happening.

My money is not on “Super Mario 3D All-Stars 2,” but that is a possibility. What I think is more likely is that Nintendo will offer some kind of compilation of all the old 2D Mario games for both Switch 1 and Switch 2. We could also just see a number of games added to the Switch Online catalog across all of its apps, minus the non-Nintendo consoles obviously. Some have even suggested that Tetris 99 will probably get a new theme, which is maybe the most realistic thing we can expect. At the very least, Mario will be present in the stream considering he is Nintendo’s mascot.

007: First Light Switch 2 Footage

A recent deep-dive into IO Interactive’s 007: First Light was showcased by Sony during a “State of Play” presentation that highlighted the game running on the PlayStation 5. As the first bit of footage we’ve seen for the upcoming game, it doesn’t truly represent what 007’s newest outing will look like on the Switch 2. While I wouldn’t anticipate James Bond dominating this Direct with a similar 35-minute segment, IO Interactive may just be planning to highlight its spy thriller running on Switch 2 hardware.

We’ve already seen very impressive results from otherwise next-generation games running on the Switch 2, including the aforementioned Cyberpunk 2077, and the recently released Star Wars Outlaws. The Switch 2 punches way above its weight and delivers rather smooth performance while doing so, but it would be in IO’s favor to specifically highlight what 007: First Light looks like on the platform. Pre-orders for the game are already available, but if the performance is somehow markedly worse, people will be very mad. Getting it out of the way this early would do a lot to assuage anyone’s fears.

More Like a Dragon/Yakuza News

Sega has been on a tear with porting the Like a Dragon/Yakuza games to Nintendo’s newest platform. The console not only launched with a new edition of Yakuza 0 dubbed the “Director’s Cut,” it will soon be receiving a port of both Kiwami and Kiwami 2. While the publisher will need to hype up those specific releases for the moment, I would anticipate confirmation that the rest of the series is heading to Nintendo’s platform in the near future.

We know at this moment that developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is working on “Stranger than Heaven,” something of a spin-off of the series that transposes the setting to 1940s Japan during the height of World War 2. It probably will launch on the Switch 2 alongside the other versions of the game, but players right now only have access to the beginning of protagonist Kiryu’s journey. Getting the other six main installments and its various spin-offs would do a lot to build up momentum for anything new.

First Footage of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on Switch 2

While the latest rumor we’ve heard about Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is that it will not release on Switch 2 this year, I do think that Microsoft would want to make it clear that the game is heading to Nintendo’s console in some capacity. Be that footage, which I think is likely, or even just a confirmation of a port, something Call of Duty is bound to be present during this Direct.

Maybe this specific Call of Duty game won’t be the first one to release on the Switch 2, but Microsoft did confirm to The Washington Post nearly three years ago that it will bring Call of Duty to Nintendo’s platforms in the future. It has to make good on that promise at some point, and since the Switch 2 is clearly capable of running the newest Call of Duty titles, why not start with Black Ops 7? I think fans would even take ports of older Call of Duty games, which would be a good way to test the waters of success on the format.
