Good and bad news for fans of N64-era 3D platforming: The Wii U version of the hotly-anticipated Banjo-Kazooie spiritual successor Yooka-Laylee has been completely scrapped. However, according to developers, the game will be headed to the Nintendo Switch!

That’s right, folks! Not one to leave Nintendo fans in the dust, Playtonic confirmed they are “working very closely with Nintendo” to bring Yooka-Laylee to the upcoming Nintendo Switch.

According to the Platonic team, the Wii U version of the game has been done away with due to unforeseen technical issues during development.

The team was quick to assure that all Wii U backers will be given the opportunity to move their pledge, free-of-charge, to any of the other versions hitting digital and retail storefronts on April 11th, 2017 (PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac and Linux).

The announcement of the Switch version uses a curious choice of words, especially considering the team of Rare veterans’ admitted interest in adding amiibo support.

Gavin Price himself, the creative director and studio head at Playtonic Games, is a collector himself of everything amiibo, having already opened a dialogue with Nintendo on the possibility back in 2015.

Wii U owners who wish to purchase the game on another system can preorder today at the price of $39.99 / £34.99 / €39.99 for non-Kickstarter backers.

No news was given on a specific release date on the Switch, but further details have been promised to arrive sometime early next year.
