It was long rumored but with today’s avalanche of news we finally have confirmation – NVIDIA is behind the technology powering Nintendo’s newest system, the Switch.

Rather than using one of the company’s pre-existing mobile chips, however, NVIDIA has created a custom Tegra processor for the Switch. Supposedly it is based on the same architecture as top-performing NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards, and was specifically optimized for gaming and mobile use cases.

Perhaps most exciting of all, however, is that “NVIDIA gaming technology is integrated into all aspects of the new Nintendo Switch home gaming system”. This could mean Nintendo will adopt the screen capture technology seen in the likes of GeForce Experience, allowing for streaming and high quality video capture. This is just speculation at this point, though.

We’ll be sure to bring you even more news on the Nintendo Switch over the coming weeks and months!
