Last week during BitSummit 7 Spirits, developers Brace Yourself Games boogied down with 4Gamer to discuss everything Cadence of Hyrule. During the interview some juicy tidbits regarding the game’s development emerged — from graphical overhauls and musical arrangements to standards set by Nintendo.
According to lead designer Oliver Trujillo, the team’s been hard at work updating the visual style of Cadence. A lot enhancements made are thanks to the fact they now have four graphic artists instead of Necrodancer’s one. This gave them the ability to increase the quality of their sprites, from characters and background tiles to everything in between.
We also learned that Cadence’s soundtrack will be heavily influenced by the SNES classic A Link to the Past because, you know, it’s irrefutably the best game in the series. Of course, fans of all those lesser Zelda games can expect some variety across the entire series as well. (Fingers crossed for Song of Storms!)
Given Nintendo’s collaboration with the game, there were some caveats the developers needed to adhere to. For one, Nintendo had a lot of influence with regards to Cadence’s story, particularly when it came to lore surrounding the Triforce. Light puzzle solving also managed to creep itself into the game’s design, given it’s a staple mechanic throughout the Zelda series.
Cadence of Hyrule is set for release sometime this June on the Nintendo Switch. Since it’s dangerous to dance alone, be sure to stick around Nintendo Wire for any future news as it breaks.
