In anticipation of Nintendo’s upcoming meeting centered around discussing last year’s fiscal sales, various economic-based reporting outlets are making predictions. Among the guesses of how Nintendo’s market share and stock prices will be affected, tidbits about the future are also hot topics in conversation.
For months, rumors have swirled around the idea that the Nintendo Switch would be getting two new versions — one being marketed as kid-friendly in price and construction, and the other receiving some tech upgrades. Various sources have shared their insider rumblings, and even mistranslated articles added to the fuel for the Nintendo hype train. Today, tech company Bloomberg decided to share what they know and how this will affect Nintendo’s profits:
“Growth in the current period will get a boost from the launch of a new, cheaper version of the Switch, according to two people familiar with the matter who requested anonymity to discuss private plans. The new device will likely be launched by the end of June, according to one of the people. The existing Switch will receive a modest upgrade this year, though a more powerful version is not in the works, the people said.
Nintendo has yet to acknowledge the new hardware, but will likely include it in its guidance, leading to a lot of guesswork and reverse-engineering of the figures, analysts said.”
Now we have a tighter time frame for the “Kid Switch” — and if Bloomberg’s sources are correct, then this new model has a high chance of debuting at E3. The information about the “new and improved” version just adds another possibility into the mix.
If all of what Bloomberg says is true, the Switch is certainly growing its own “spinoff” family like the Nintendo 3DS did. At this point, we just hope that neither one of the two versions are named “New Nintendo Switch.”
