Hey there, Trainers! Pokémon GO has surprised us all with a brand new event today, the Battle Showdown. This event is focused around fighting Gyms; other Trainers; as well as the three Team Leaders, Spark, Blanche, and Candella. And of course, there wouldn’t be a Pokémon GO event without new Shiny Pokémon involved, so be on the lookout for Shiny Mankey and Shiny Machop while you’re out searching for battles.
Overall, fighting Pokémon are going to see an increased spawn rate for the event as well. A new Fighting-type move has been added to GO — Poliwrath, Hitmonchan, Kangaskhan, Medicham, and Lucario can all now learn Power-Up Punch.
As far as the length of the event goes, the Battle Showdown started today at 1:00 p.m. PT, and will run until March 12th at 1:00 p.m. PT. Bonuses available during the event include double the Stardust from Raids, battles, and catches, and double experience towards Gym badges. Battling other Trainers will get you five rewards per day, and battles with Team Leaders will get you three rewards per day — in both cases, Battle Rewards will include Rare Candy.
