Maybe it’s because I’ve played Kirby 64 more than Squeak Squad or Amazing Mirror, but Adeleine & Ribbon is the part of the upcoming Dream Friends update I’m most excited for. This trailer does the best job yet of showing why, with plenty of references to Kirby’s first polygonal adventure.

The way the two interact in their idle poses is already selling me when it comes to cuteness, but once you see them in action it’s clear these two have nearly every tool they could want. Of course it wouldn’t be Adeleine if she weren’t bringing art to life or flailing her brush, but with Ribbon’s help the two can fly, twirl, and even use the Crystal Gun.
By hiding behind Adeleine’s easel they can avoid any threats coming close, but when she comes around to the front the creative combat ensues. We already knew they could ride a drawn version of Kracko, but now it looks like Ice Dragon and even the rarely seen midboss ninja Waiu are options as well.
There’s one more trick with that easel, too! By painting up the picnics shared at the end of every Crystal Shards stage, they can bring out a real feast to heal up and share with the rest of their friends. It’s a perfect realization of two long lost partners and it’s happening this Friday in Kirby Star Allies.
