After already being delayed from Fall 2017 to a vague “2018” date last June, it seems like it’s going to take even longer for Nintendo Switch’s paid online service to take effect.
Nintendo’s official website has been updated with a news story containing the following sentence…
“Online services and features. including online gameplay, are free until the paid Nintendo Switch Online Service launches in 2019.”
While it’s great this means we’ll be able to play games like Splatoon 2 at no cost for another full year, it does raise questions regarding the Switch’s Virtual Console, which was expected to launch alongside the service. It’s possible Nintendo will launch it earlier separately, but perhaps the company wants consumers to focus on new products rather than the old during these early years?
