Sonic Mania, one of the finest games I’ve played all year, is receiving a quality of life update on the Nintendo Switch very soon. One of the biggest issues that plagued the game at launch with that platform was the amount of delay that would come when pressing the Home button on the console. According to a tweet from the official Sonic account, that won’t be an issue any longer.

Likewise, there’ll be a dedicated button to activate Super forms in game versus being tied to the jump button. While that was true to form with the series’ history, it also would get in the way of Sonic’s Drop Dash technique, effectively locking it out from being used without transforming. This should lead to Tails and Knuckles having the ability to fly and glide freely regardless of ring totals as well.

What other bugs or performance issues this might fix, such as the slowdown during the first special stage, aren’t known at this time. It shouldn’t take long to find out though, with the patch already rolling out on other platforms.
