The Evo 2017 charity-drive like voting we reported on earlier has come to an end. While the winner wasn’t a game from Nintendo, there’s still some fantastic news out of the event. Throughout the donation period there were two clear contenders: Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Pokkén Tournament. In the end UMvC won out and is Evo’s ninth game, but collectively all of the games gathered over $150,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Of that total, $62,431 was in the name of getting Pokkén on to the Evo lineup. Also noteworthy is that $1,337 was raised in support of the currently unreleased Switch title ARMS. Just goes to show that while it couldn’t come close to taking the grand stage, Nintendo’s new fighting IP already has some eager fans.
Finally, Evo’s organizers had a bit of good news for Pokkén fans. While it won’t be on the world’s largest fighting game stage this year, they’ve decided to commit $10,000 to support Pokkén Tournament events over the course of the year in recognition of fans’ support.
Just as a last, small detail: these totals are the preliminary results now that the pages have stopped taking donations. Totals may change slightly as payments clear, but regardless this turnout of support and generosity can’t be lessened. Evo 2017 will start this summer, on July 14th. Both Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Melee will be marquee titles for the event.
