Nintendo’s upcoming NES Classic Edition is definitely exciting for retro fans, but many are no doubt wondering if they can adjust how the games look on their TV screens. Most modern retro game re-releases come with a variety of options to scale and filter the image, from Sega’s Genesis hub on Steam to the recent Turbografx releases on the Wii U Virtual Console.

Thankfully, according to a French interview between La Terrasse ÉNERGIE and Nintendo of Canada’s communications manager Julie Gagnon, it looks like the NES Classic will come with similar features built in. Here’s the full quote, courtesy of Nintendo Everything:

“What is interesting is that we can play through HDMI, but there will be different modes of how we will see the screen – a mode simulating the retro aspect of our old CRT screens, there will be a mode which can be at the resolution of the modern screens in 4:3 format, and a pixel perfect mode which will display each pixel as a square, so people can have fun with this too.”

It looks like every audience will be catered for, from those wanting the nostalgic glow of a CRT set to the hardcore pixel-perfect purists. Two save systems are also confirmed in the interview; the permanent saves in the likes of Zelda and Final Fantasy will be fully functional and instant save states will be possible in all 30 games so players don’t have to jot down passwords.

We’ll be sure to bring you more on the NES Classic Edition as we near its November 11th release date. Be sure to check out our previous article for the full list of games.
