If you’ve been playing Kirby Air Riders for the past year, you’ve likely dipped into some of its online events from time to time. Special weekly events that allow you to earn stickers, themes, and street names to customize your in-game drivers licensed with, this year’s Halloween event has met an unceremonious end thanks to constant freezing and stutter in online matches. As shared by user TAHK0 on social media, it seems the madness of City Trial pushed the game too far, resulting in random interruptions that made playing a nightmare.

Originally scheduled to run between October 28th-November 4th, 2026, Nintendo has decided to outright cancel the event instead of forcing players to engage with stuttery gameplay. The issue was confirmed by Nintendo of Japan’s support account on Twitter, which wrote, “We have confirmed a bug in the currently running event, ‘Trick or Treat!,’ where the screen temporarily freezes during gameplay. Therefore, this event will be canceled.”

If you were hoping to obtain the special rewards associated with the event, don’t worry. Nintendo confirms it will be running an event with them in the future, though there’s no timetable for when that will take place. The likely reason the game is freezing like this is probably a mixture of poor connections with the chaotic nature of what the “Trick or Treat!” event is. Since players can accumulate a ridiculous amount of power-ups in a short span, the Nintendo Switch 2 likely can’t keep up, and its CPU is probably hitting bottlenecks trying to process everything. That sounds like a rather fun off-shoot of City Trial, but it wouldn’t be particularly fun if you’re earnestly competing.
