When it comes to Nintendo games as of late, the company has been very sketchy about stating which studio is creating its latest titles. I’m not sure what the reason behind that is, but it has followed with every game announced during this week’s Nintendo Direct presentation. When the trailer for Metroid Ravenous started showing gameplay, it was easy to assume developer MercurySteam was working on the game, especially since it looks very close to Metroid Dread. Still, Nintendo is being coy and won’t confirm who is on the job.
In a social media post, however, MercurySteam seemingly has announced its own involvement with some careful emoji use. Quote tweeting the trailer on Twitter, the official MercurySteam account simply posted a Ninja emoji and a heart, which isn’t an outright confirmation, but likely points to the team’s involvement. I would have assumed the team was responsible since it developed Metroid Samus Returns and Dread, the last two 2D games in the series. Why would Nintendo mess with a good thing?
Metroid Ravenous release date
We’ll learn the truth in a few months as Metroid Ravenous is set to release for Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027. A special edition including a steelbook case and Metroid Samus amiibo is available alongside the standard version. You can pre-order the standard version on Amazon today.
