Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is one of the Nintendo Switch games most in need of a Switch 2 upgrade, but it seems like publisher Koei Tecmo has bungled up what should have been a slam drunk repackaging. After announcing the Definitive Edition during this week’s Nintendo Direct presentation, we got confirmation that the upgrade for current owners would be priced at $29.99. That’s already a steep price when past upgrades have been either free or $10. If you were considering grabbing the physical edition to have everything on a cartridge, then I’ve got bad news for you:
Per the listing on Nintendo UK’s store page, it has been confirmed that Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition will be a Game-Key Card release.
This would now mark the second Nintendo published game for Switch 2 that releases on a Game-Key Card. It’s certainly an interesting choice considering Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is complete on the cartridge. Then again, that game doesn’t have any DLC and seemingly won’t be getting any, so who knows? Commenters have been quick to blame developer Koei Tecmo, which also developed Pokémon Pokopia, but both of those games were published by Nintendo. Nintendo could have footed the bill to release each game on a cartridge.
