Color me jealous as EB Games Canada has announced a rather nifty pre-order bonus for the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. Anyone who reserves the game ahead of release (the cutoff is November 4th, 2026) will receive a slipcover fashioned to resemble the original N64 box art for Ocarina. It’s even got the same holographic effect that old box had, which is what the updated Nintendo Switch 2 art is going for. I almost want to import this version simply for this bonus!

There doesn’t seem to be any other bonus for going with EB Games Canada, but slipcovers are awesome. As a collector of physical media, I have a ton of slipcovers for Blu-ray releases for Hong Kong films. While standard game cases can look nice, there’s something about a cover that makes it feel just a bit more premium. It’s one of the joys of physical ownership, which is something digital distribution cannot replicate. I really like looking at the artwork and feeling it in my hands.
This isn’t the first time a Nintendo remake has gotten the treatment. When Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door was released on Switch in 2024, players who bought it at Nintendo New York were given a slipcover for the game box that resembled the original GameCube packaging. This was reportedly also available at GameStop Canada. It makes me wonder if this offer will be available for US customers, but nothing has been announced on that front yet.
