It’s been a few years since we’ve heard about Nintendo deleting GitHub repositories for emulators, but the battle is never over. In a new report from TorrentFreak, it’s been claimed that The Big N wiped out more than 400 Nintendo Switch emulator repositories in a single day sometime earlier this week. The prime target of this latest DMCA takedown spree was Suyu, an emulator which rose up in the sake of Yuzu’s destruction. Of the 401 repositories taken down, apparently 311 were linked to Suyu.

Another targeted emulator was Skyline, an Android-based emulator for mobile devices, which had 29 repositories. MonoNX, a C# developed emulator, had 17 of its repositories taken down. If you navigate to those pages now, a DMCA notice from Nintendo pops up. “The reported repositories offer, link to, or otherwise provide access to Nintendo Switch emulators,” read the notices. “Nintendo Switch emulators are primarily designed to play Nintendo Switch games. Specifically, these Nintendo Switch emulators illegally circumvent Nintendo’s TPMs in order to run illegal copies of Nintendo Switch games.”
What makes Skyline notable is that it allegedly shut down development in 2023. Due to its source code being available online, however, other developers picked up development with forks of their own and continued releasing updates for the last three years. The same can be said of Yuzu, which was outright demolished by Nintendo in 2024, but somehow remains in active development. Nintendo’s crusade against emulators will be an endless battle, or at least endless until the Switch no longer remains commercially viable.
I’m actually surprised we haven’t seen a resurgence of Ryujinx, though that might be because Nintendo supposedly purchased the website for the emulator in 2024. Forks are likely floating around somewhere, but discovering them is even harder than before.
