File this one under an extreme rumor, but it appears as if Nintendo is going to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda series with a special edition Switch 2 console. Posted by Centro LEAKS on Twitter, there is packaging for not only a fully decked out console, but an accompanying Pro Controller 2 to match. They’re emblazoned with special theming, nifty colors, a custom dock, and the Hyrulean Crest.

Now, I’m not entirely sold on these being real. Starting off, Nintendo has not announced anything for Zelda’s 40th anniversary yet despite the year being nearly over. Second, if this is meant to coincide with Ocarina of Time remake’s release, why are the boxes ready to go so far in advance? We still don’t have a release date for Ocarina of Time, though Nintendo is adamant it will release in 2026. Does that mean this console will be available before the game?

To be fair, the packaging for the console and Pro Controller 2 do not say Ocarina of Time anywhere on them. They could simply be a new variant of the Switch 2 meant to drive extra sales for the holiday season. It’s not entirely out of the question considering the 3DS got not only three themed consoles for specific Zelda game releases, but a regular special edition variant for the series. Even the 2DS Pro got its own Zelda device. Nintendo loves making special edition consoles, even if the Nintendo Switch 2 has yet to receive one.
I wouldn’t start making plans for this as the images are somewhat low quality, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility.
