After Capcom shot down a rumor stating Onimusha: Way of the Sword would be releasing in early September, it seems the company has changed its mind and pushed the date forward by three weeks. Now hitting PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4th, 2026, fans will be able to step back into the world of Onimusha much earlier than originally expected (which was September 25th).

Likely in a move to further separate the upcoming action game from Grand Theft Auto VI’s release, Way of the Sword is coming earlier than announced. Just yesterday, Capcom producer Akihito Kadowaki had stated the company “can’t back out now” when talking about releasing in September 2026. I guess Capcom figured instead of having fans wait, it would make more sense to unleash it earlier and get ahead of the busier weeks. September 4th certainly gives it some good distance from other titles.

I don’t think this is a bad move, either. From the demo released on PC during Summer Game’s Fest, Onimusha: Way of the Sword feels pretty great. There was nary an issue with the build, running with near flawless performance and well-thought-out systems. Other than general polish, the game is basically done.
