It seems Capcom might be looking to distance Onimusha: Way of the Sword’s release from other heavy hitting games this September. As spotted by Cheap Ass Gamer on social media, Canadian retailer PNP Games lists a September 4th, 2026, release date for the upcoming Onimusha title. That’s certainly much earlier than the previously announced September 25th date.

Capcom has not made any official statement on this, though it should be noted that US retailers have not changed the release date for their listings. It’s very likely this is an error on the part of PNP Games, but it could also be a genuine change. Earlier this year, Capcom moved Pragmata’s release date up a week from the previously announced April 24th, 2026, to April 17th, 2026. There has never been an official answer for why, but it’s possible that the game went gold earlier than expected.

The elephant in the room with regard to Onimusha: Way of the Sword, however, is the looming release of Grand Theft Auto VI. September has become flooded with big releases as publishers try to steer clear of GTA’s November 17th, 2026, release date. Maybe Capcom decided it wasn’t worth fighting for attention amidst tons of other September releases and then losing focus completely once GTA hits.

Whatever the case, Onimusha: Way of the Sword might be releasing earlier than we thought.
