The producer of Resident Evil Requiem has thought about a future installment set in Japan, and believes that many of the development team has too.
In an interview with Futaman (via Automaton Media), producer Masato Kumazawa was asked if a Japan-set game had ever been considered.
“I think setting the game in Japan is something every Japanese fan of the Resident Evil series has surely considered,” Kumazawa said (via machine translation), “and I’ve thought about it myself.”
“Since the development team is primarily based in Japan, I imagine every member has considered it at some point. While it hasn’t actually appeared as a game setting yet, it might make an appearance somewhere in the future.”

Lead game designer Kenji Fukasawa, who also took part in the interview, gave some insight into the development of the blind zombie enemy that reacts violently to sound (who is referred to in the interview as “Noisy”).
“During a playtest session, while we were still in development, there was an instance where every single zombie in the East Wing disappeared,” Fukasawa said.
“We asked the programmers, ‘Is this a bug?’ and ‘What on earth is going on?’ When we investigated, it turned out it wasn’t a bug – Noisy had taken them all out (laughs).
“Actually, at that time, Noisy was set to react to all sounds, not just the player’s. So Noisy reacted to the sounds of other zombies and creatures and ended up defeating them all. The entire development team was shocked (laughs). That’s partly why we ultimately made it so that Noisy only reacts to the player’s sounds.”
Resident Evil Requiem is available now on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam. Nintendo Wire’s review stated: “Resident Evil may be revisiting the past with this latest entry, but for the most part, it manages to avoid its previous mistakes – and more importantly, capitalizes on what the series does best.”
