Just yesterday, Annapurna Interactive’s hit 2022 cat game Stray finally made its way over to the Switch 2. Released on the original Switch back in 2024, owners of the game were surprised to find that there wasn’t a free upgrade available despite Annapurna stating there would be. Thankfully, that is a temporary issue and Annapurna is already working to correct it.
On Bluesky, Annapurna wrote, “Today’s launch for Stray on Nintendo Switch 2 was intended to have a 100% owners discount for those who already own Stray digitally on Switch 1 (excluding Japan).” The company explains to due to an error in the eShop backend, the discount is not being applied correctly. The company is currently working with Nintendo to correct the issue, so anyone looking to upgrade just needs to hold out a few more days until things are fixed.

Interestingly, the post makes mention of the digital version of Stray on Switch and not the physical release. This likely means that owners of the Switch 1 cartridge would need to rebuy Stray to get the Switch 2 upgrades, which is a bummer.
If you don’t already own Stray, the Switch 2 version is currently $17.99 on the eShop. You could also grab the Switch 2 version and wait for the Switch 2 upgrade if you prefer. The Switch 2 version includes 4K resolution output, improved frame rates, and mouse controls (why am I imagining an actual mouse?).
