Nintendo has confirmed that Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, its newest entry in the long-running Yoshi series, has a game-breaking bug which can halt progress indefinitely. In a post on Twitter yesterday, the company outlined the steps that lead to the bug, which is meant to help people avoid repeating the problem on their own.

It sounds a little convoluted without personally experiencing the game, but the specific situation is as follows: Players who start researching the “Bewilder Bird” before hearing Mr. E’s tutorial on the Index, but then end research before making a major discovery, won’t be able to leave the Index tutorial when it starts. According to Nintendo Everything, the Index tutorial happens after finishing the first four chapters.

When will the Mr. E bug be fixed in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book?

Thankfully, Nintendo is currently working on an update for the game that will correct the issue. From the sounds of things, it’s fairly early in the game, so if you’re run into the bug, it might be best to just restart everything and purposely avoid the problem. It’s too bad that such an issue even exists, but this isn’t the first time a Nintendo game launched with progress halting bugs.
