Nintendo has published the opening cinematic of its upcoming puzzle-platformer, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, which launches this week.

The cutscene sees the game’s main villain, Bowser Jr., entering a dark, seemingly abandoned room with a giant pile of books. Atop the pile is Mister Encyclopedia (Mr. E for short), which later tasks Yoshi with filling in its blank pages.

The video ends with Bowser Jr. carrying the giant book with his flying vehicle above Yoshi’s Island. Presumably, something causes him to drop the book, leading to Mr. E landing near a group of Yoshis as seen in the reveal trailer.

Last week, a new trailer showed some of the game’s strange creatures, including a flower-spitting giant and a boomerang-shaped slug.

When will Yoshi and the Mysterious Book release?

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book will launch worldwide on May 21st, 2026, only on Nintendo Switch 2. It’s available to pre-order now from the official Nintendo store and on Amazon.
