After teasing it for the last few weeks, Capcom has surprise-released its planned minigame DLC for Resident Evil Requiem. Titled “Leon Must Die Forever,” the mode is something of a roguelike spin on the main campaign with branching paths and no cutscenes. The description reads, “Grace made it home safely, but Leon still has work to do. Use his enhanced abilities to complete this minigame as fast as possible,” so think Mercenaries with more of a structure.

To unlock the mode, you’ll need to finish the main campaign in Requiem and update to version 1.300.000. After that, on the main menu select “Extra Games,” and then finally “Leon Must Die Forever.” The mode tasks players with making it through 20 levels of increasing difficulty with random enemy spawns, randomized weapons, and permadeath. It culminates in a boss battle with Victor, likely similar to the main campaign.

As Vice reports, completion points earned from beating the main campaign can be used to unlock new items for LMDF. Leon is the only playable character (obviously), but it seems this mode will be ripe for extra characters when the paid DLC releases. The same thing happened with Mercenaries in both Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4’s remake.
