Nightdive Studios has announced that its System Shock remake has received a new patch on all platforms, though special attention was given to the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 ports. In what the company is calling the “Parity Patch,” players on Nintendo’s consoles will see vastly improved performance that brings the game up to a much more playable state.

Justin Khan, producer at Nightdive, said in a press release, “System Shock Version 2.1, the ‘Parity Patch,’ marks nearly ten years since the System Shock Remake project began. This patch represents countless lessons learned, the dedication of a small but determined team, and our commitment to refining the experience across every platform. Thank you for sticking with us through the ups and downs of that journey.”

For raw numbers, the Switch 1 port now runs at 900p resolution in docked mode with 720p for handheld (all using a dynamic resolution scaler). It targets 30 fps, which is about what you’d expect from the aging console. Switch 2 now runs at 1440p docked and 1080p handheld (with DLSS) and hits 60 fps. That is closer to what the port should have been. In my review for the Switch 2 port, I noted that the underlying game design was great, but performance was a big problem specifically because its unlocked frame rate made precision aiming feel wonky.

“This patch represents countless lessons learned, the dedication of a small but determined team, and our commitment to refining the experience across every platform,” Khan said. “Thank you for sticking with us through the ups and downs of that journey.” Hopefully now, players on Switch 1 and 2 can experience the greatness that is Citadel Station without issue.
